Being part of a sports team is a great way for high school students to stay healthy and active. Playing sports in high school paves the way for a healthy lifestyle as an adult. But athletics can be hard on a teenager’s musculoskeletal system. Injuries and pain are common, and chiropractic is a great solution for keeping kids healthy on and off the field.

In this article, I’m going to discuss a few of the ways that regular chiropractic care can benefit high school athletes.

Decreased Recovery Time. Let’s face it﹘ injuries are bound to happen in high school sports, especially with contact sports like football. It’s been shown that if a player regularly sees a chiropractor, their recovery time following an injury will be shorter than it would be without chiropractic care.

In addition, seeing a chiropractor after an injury can help to reduce pain and get your child on the road to recovery. If you’re being told by other doctors that surgery might be necessary, be sure to consult a chiropractor as well. While some injuries call for surgical correction, sometimes there are ways to heal without it.

Injury Prevention. Receiving routine chiropractic care is a great way to keep the body in peak condition, and a body that is functioning at 100% is much more likely to avoid injury. Chiropractors can work on specific joints and muscle groups that are used in your child’s sport to protect them from common issues and injuries.

Chiropractic care providers that offer a variety of services, such as physical therapy, laser therapy, and acupuncture; can provide a multi-faceted approach to wellness. This not only helps athletes heal faster but will also help to reduce the risk of recurring injuries in the future.

Student-athletes who see a chiropractor on a regular basis will likely see improved flexibility and range of motion. This can improve everything from reaction time to maintaining proper form.

Keeping It Simple. Lastly, chiropractic is a natural form of medicine that relies on techniques that allow the body to heal from the inside out. That means that your child’s chiropractor is the last person that is going to recommend unnecessary surgery or prescription medications. Now, I don’t know about you, but I’d like to help my kids avoid invasive procedures and drugs if at all possible.

If your child has a chiropractor that sees them regularly and knows their body, he or she will be able to help them strengthen any vulnerable areas, as well as heal completely in the event of an injury.
